Cassette

Content ratings

Last updated: 31 October 2026

Every game on Cassette shows a Cassette content rating: a minimum age and short content descriptors, plus notes on interactive features such as in-game purchases. This page explains where they come from and what they mean.

Where ratings come from

When a developer publishes a game, it answers our rating questionnaire about what the game contains. The rating is worked out from those answers: the highest age that any answer calls for. Our moderators check the answers during review and whenever we receive a report, and we correct a rating that's wrong. A developer must update its answers when the game changes.

Cassette ratings are declared by developers and checked by us. They are not official PEGI, ESRB, USK or IARC ratings. They help you choose; they don't replace a parent's judgement. If a rating looks wrong, use the Report link on the game page.

Ages

RatingSuitable for
All agesEveryone. Nothing frightening, violent beyond the cartoonish, or unsuitable for young children
7+Children from 7. Mild fantasy or cartoon violence, mildly scary moments
12+From 12. Fantasy violence, or mild violence towards realistic characters; some blood; horror and jump scares; mild bad language; suggestive themes; references to alcohol, tobacco or drugs; depicted gambling
16+From 16. Realistic violence; gore; intense horror; strong language; sexual themes without explicit content; depicted drug use; discrimination shown critically
18+Adults. Extreme or gratuitous violence; extreme gore; glamorised illegal drug use; playable casino-style gambling simulations (no real money)

Sexually explicit content, real-money gambling and content that encourages discrimination aren't allowed on Cassette at any rating (see the Content and moderation policy).

Interactive features

Shown separately, because they're about how a game works, not its content:

  • In-game purchases, and whether they include paid random items (their odds are shown before purchase);
  • Players interact: chat, multiplayer, or content made by other players;
  • Online services: the game sends data to services other than Cassette, or links out of Cassette.
